It is difficult to know how many driving lessons a person will need. We all learn different. Some people find learning to drive much easier than others. The recommendation is that people practice for at least 120 hours before they attempt to sit the practical license test.
It doesn’t mean you need to take 120 driving lessons. The idea is to get some driving lessons with a professional driving instructor and at the same time practice what you have learned on your lessons with a person that qualifies as a supervisor. Practice is key, but it has to be good practice!
Once you pass your learners license test (theory) in NZ, you can start to learn to drive. You can do this either with a professional driving instructor or with a person that qualifies as a supervisor.
You may qualify to get some free driving lessons through various organisations that get subsidy from the government.
You may qualify to get some free driving lessons if you are on a benefit.
Unfortunately you can’t speed up your defensive driving course.
Defensive driving courses reduce the time on your restricted driver’s license from 18 to 12 months for those people that are under 25 years of age and from 6 to 3 months for those people that are over 25 years of age.
